Abstract artwork by British artist Ron Hitchins (c.1966), which originally formed part of his show at the John Whibley Gallery.
The piece consists of 21 terracotta tiles, subtly painted with a dark bronze glaze.
The designs are inspired by Aztec art and each tile is unique, made by hand at Hitchins' Hackney home then fired from a kiln in his basement.
The tiles are set upon a hessian backing, which is painted in a charcoal grey, beautifully finished in a handcrafted wooden frame.
Signed in pen to the back and also inscribed in biro ‘John Whibley Gallery, George Street’.
In good vintage condition, with some age related wear — an inconspicuous repair to one tile and two small spots of paint loss to the hessian, nothing which detracts from the beauty of the piece. Please refer to images.
