William Black Abstract Sculpture
William Black Abstract Sculpture
A tall abstract sculpture (1968) by British artist William Black.
Crafted from scraps of copper and rigid wire, depicting a three-dimensional landscape of abstract flower forms and shapes.
The metal is patinated — a vibrant green verdigris, with areas of uneven texture. Aged over the years, adding to its character as the artist envisaged.
Black formerly worked as an architect and moved to St Ives in the 50s to pursue a career as a self-taught artist; during this time, notable names such as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, and Naum Gabo were also active, and are considered to have influenced Black’s work.
Signed and dated on the base.
In good vintage condition, with some age-related patina, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the piece. Please refer to images.
