Erik Höglund Figurative Bookends
Erik Höglund Figurative Bookends
A pair of sculptural glass bookends (c.1960) by Erik Höglund for Kosta Boda.
Two playful, figurative forms in smooth clear glass — reminiscent of ice carvings, and drawing inspiration from primitive design and folk art.
Erik Höglund studied sculpture before joining the Swedish glassworks Kosta Boda, arriving with little experience in glass. Höglund was free to experiment, teaching himself glassblowing by night and designing by day. His unconventional background led to him breaking glassworking conventions, which challenged and transformed the landscape of the industry.
Artist's signature etched on the base of both sculptures.
In good vintage condition, with some age-related wear — a tiny chip on the back corner of one piece, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the piece.
